Attending my niece’s funeral was unexpected. I was grateful we could find a flight from Minneapolis to Florida in time to be with family. After the wake and funeral, all the hugs were had—still teary—I hopped on an early flight back to Minneapolis. Then I made the 13+ hour drive home to Colorado.
The open road gave me welcome space to reflect and ask some big… still unanswered…questions. Passing the “Welcome to Colorado” , driving up my familiar street, and slowly pulling into the driveway felt really good.
A spring frost had clouded the skies and left the wildflowers and tree blossoms chilled. But I was thrilled to see the abundant return of the sand lilies… sprinkled with frozen water. These precious, low, star-shaped blossoms are both beautiful and resilient. It was a sweet reunion. I smiled at all the sand lilies as I greeted them, “good morning.”
